Mysterious Romanian trents: stones that grow and even multiply

On our planet there are many amazing objects of nature that are of interest to travelers and scientists. One of them is trents - mysterious stone formations that are located in Romania, in Europe.

In Romania, these stones are called "living stones" or "eternally living stones." The appearance of most trents is so unusual that for many years they were shrouded in legends and traditions. In addition, they are able to increase in size and change shape, which led to the emergence of fantastic assumptions about wildlife. But the fact that for many years seemed inexplicable and supernatural, eventually found a scientific explanation.

Researchers were able to find out that trents are large nodules of sandstone. Nodule is a spherical or rounded mineral formation in the center of which there is a so-called seed. As a result of geological and chemical processes, sandstone is layered on the central formation, and the stones gradually increase in size. Confirmation of this process are circles going from the center of the stone, which are clearly visible on the chips. A similar process can be observed with the formation of pearls.

After the nodule itself has been formed, it is subject to certain geochemical processes. According to experts, after prolonged summer rainfall trents noticeably increase in size. This is due to the fact that the sandstone particles inside the "living stones" are bound by a cementing clay-lime material that can absorb moisture and swell. But, for example, in similar boulders on the territory of our country, quartz-chalcedony materials that do not have similar properties act as a binder.

Another interesting feature of trents is that unusual convex parts can form on their surface. This also occurs after heavy rains. After the formation grows and increases in size, it collapses under the influence of gravity. Therefore, next to a large trent, you can sometimes find several small ones. It is precisely because of this that some locals and lovers of sensations began to say that trents are able not only to grow, but also to multiply.

But here, scientists disappointed fans of mysticism and secrets. It turned out that due to the heterogeneous composition and with an abundance of moisture, sandstone can be redistributed inside the nodule, forming bizarre bulges.

In Romania, trents are found in the central and southern regions, especially a lot of them in the area of the village of Otesani. And in 2006, on the territory of more than 1 ha, the "Museum of Trents" was created, where a collection of the most unusual and impressive stones was collected. This museum is located near the village of Costesti in the area of the sand quarries of Valcea. If you are lucky enough to visit Romania, be sure to visit the "Trentov Museum" - this is a very unusual place.
