Scientists have created healthy bananas that you can eat with the peel

The peel of traditional bananas is completely tasteless and is not used for food. But Japanese scientists decided to correct this shortcoming and grew fruits that have excellent taste and are suitable for eating.

D&T Farm specialists used freezing technology to produce unusual bananas. This method is based on the assumption that bananas have a genetically based mechanism that allows them to adapt to colder climates. Young plants are placed in chambers with negative temperatures, and after some time they are gradually thawed and placed in ordinary conditions. Due to the temperature difference, bananas begin to grow more intensively, and ripened fruits have a thin and soft skin. If it takes about two years to get the first harvest from ordinary banana plants, then the fruit grown according to the new Japanese technology ripened in just 4 months.

The fruits obtained in this way are distinguished by a large number of vitamins and minerals, in comparison with ordinary bananas. In addition, they contain more sugars and therefore their taste is sweeter. But their main difference is a softer and edible peel. The skin of such bananas is devoid of bitterness, has the aroma of pineapples and is quite suitable for food.

Japanese scientists gave the banana the name "Mongay", which translates from Japanese as "incredible." So far, such bananas are sold only in one department store in the city of Okayama and are not cheap, since their cultivation requires significant material costs. But experts hope that such a technology will help Japan join the banana-growing countries, because the climatic conditions here are far from the hot tropics.
