How to make pencils

It seems that a pencil, whether it is color or gray, is a fairly simple to manufacture item that does not require special technologies. But it turns out that it takes several days to make a pencil, not every tree is suitable for the basis of a high-quality pencil, and gray and colored pencils differ not only in the presence of dye.

For the production of pencils in Russia, linden, cedar or alder pines are used, but the highest quality are pencils made from cedar pine. In the world manufacture of pencils, another high-quality raw material is popular - the wood of the tropical jelutong tree.

The core of gray or simple pencils consists of graphite of various densities and clay, but there is no graphite in colored pencils. Their core is made of clay, dyes and binders. The video below shows how the process of producing pencils looks at one of the factories.
