Germany opens part of 100-kilometer bicycle superhighway

Germany takes its famous autobahn to a whole new level, creating a track for cyclists. At the moment, a 100-kilometer super-highway is being built there, designed only for bicycles, and all comers can already test the first five kilometers of the road.

The route will connect 10 western cities, including Duisburg, Bochum and Hamm. It will run along abandoned railways in the Ruhr industrial region.

According to Martin Toennes of the regional group of developers RVR, about 2 million people living in this area will be able to use the highway, which will reduce the number of cars on the roads by almost 50,000.
