How to feel like a magician - instant freezing of water

Which of us in childhood was not fond of tricks? Childhood passes, but faith in miracles remains. Simple preparations, and now you are already doing real magic. A bit of scientific knowledge, sleight of hand and, most importantly, no fraud. We invite you to participate in an experiment, the course of which is very simple.

The process that is captured in the video is called instant freezing of water. For the experiment, you will need purified water. Of course, getting distilled water is problematic, but for our case, purified drinking water, which is sold in a store, is quite suitable. A half-liter bottle must be placed in the freezer, the temperature in which is about -15 - 18 degrees. When you take out the bottle after one and a half to two hours, the water in it will still be in a liquid state, but its temperature will be much lower than zero. Why doesn’t she freeze? The thing is that it does not contain the impurities necessary for ice crystallization and can be at a temperature of minus 40 degrees in a liquid state. That is, it has already cooled down and is ready to freeze, but it does not have suitable crystallization centers for this around which ice is formed.

But with ordinary fresh drinking water, containing, as a rule, dissolved salts, such a trick will not work. She will begin to freeze already in the freezer.

But what happens when we get a bottle out of the cold? As shown in the video, the experimenter shakes the bottle or touches the water with a piece of ice. From mechanical action or contact with ice crystals, supercooled water begins to turn into ice right before our eyes. Water acquires the very missing crystallization center and, since its temperature is much lower than zero degrees, a chain reaction starts - ice crystals attach to each other and gradually fill the entire volume of the bottle.

Be sure to try to do this with your friends or surprise the children! This is a very effective experiment, and most importantly, easily performed at home.
